Konark holds one of the most ambitious architectural visions ever executed in stone. The Sun Temple, built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, was conceived as an enormous stone chariot for Surya, the sun god: twelve pairs of intricately carved wheels, seven horses, and every surface alive with sculpture depicting celestial beings, erotic figures, war elephants, and daily life in extraordinary detail. The temple is UNESCO-listed and consistently ranked among India's finest monuments.
Konark sits 35 kilometres from Puri and 65 kilometres from Bhubaneswar, making it a natural element of any Odisha itinerary. The Puri Konark tour, combining both sacred and heritage sites in a single day, is one of our most popular Odisha routes. Extending it to include Chilika Lake creates a Puri Konark Chilika tour package that covers three of Odisha's finest experiences in one well-structured journey. The Konark beach just below the temple and the Chandrabhaga beach nearby are quiet and beautiful, adding a coastal dimension to the heritage visit.
